External Wall Insulation

As much as 45% of our domestic heat is lost through our un-insulated solid walls. The Energy Savings Trust has calculated that an average household (semi detached house) could save up to £270.00 on its heating bills per year by installing external wall insulation, and save 600Kg of CO2 per annum and reduce their carbon footprint.

External wall insulation can also transform the look of your home. An old and tired property can be revitalized by the new sharp lines and brightness of the decorative finish on top of the insulation.

If your house was built before 1930, then its external walls are probably solid rather than cavity, and external wall insulation provides an effective solution for the higher levels of heat loss experienced with solid walls.

SEAL Energy Ltd uses several BBA licensed external wall insulation systems e.g. Instaclad produced by Instafibre, and Webbe.therm produced by SIG. Whatever the system they will always involve fixing a layer of insulation board (usually 90mm thick) to the walls, and covering this with a special adhesive render or scrim coat, into which is embedded a reinforcing mesh. The finish (decorative topcoat) can be silicone, dash or brick effect to suit the customers requirements. An average 3 bedroom semi detached house will take approximately 6 days to complete.

After the work is completed you will find that your home is significantly more comfortable and easier to keep at a constant temperature. Condensation will be minimized and gaps around badly fitting door and window frames eliminated. Your home will be warmer and cheaper to run.
