Loft Insulation

Approximately 25% of our domestic heat is lost through our uninsulated roof. The Energy Savings Trust has calculated that an average household (semi detached house) could save £150.00 per year on its heating bills by insulating their roofspace up to current standards and also save 600Kg of CO2 and reduce their carbon footprint.

SEAL uses fibreglass quilt and the material is cross-layed i.e. the first layer is rolled between the joists and a second layer is rolled out at 90º to the first, to prevent any “cold bridging” effect through the joists. The loft job will also include insulating any cold water pipes and tanks, and the back of the loft hatch. The whole installation will take approximately 1½ - 2 hours to complete.

After the work has been done, you will notice that you will need the heating on less, and that your home is more comfortable, particularly the bedrooms. Your home will be warmer and cheaper to run.

Our loft quilt, amongst other advantages, is non-combustible, rot proof, chemically inert, will not provide sustenance to vermin, has a high thermal insulation value and is kite marked.

Generous grants from government and fuel utilities are available to encourage householders to insulate their homes - see if you qualify in the section on Prices and Funding.
